  Adult Programs

This celebration of reading has become an annual event at Ramsey County Library. Winter Jackets encourages busy adults to delight in reading during the dark months of winter.

The Winter Jackets reading program will be held at the libraries in Arden Hills, Mounds View, North Saint Paul and White Bear Lake. Pick up your reading record bookmark beginning January 11 at any of these four libraries.

Read books, write reviews, get treats and enter a prize drawing. Here's a chance for adults to have fun with a reading program just for them. It's easy, it's fun and it's sure to cure those winter blahs!

White Bear Reads is a "one book - one community" reading program for the White Bear Lake Area including White Bear, Vadnais Heights, Hugo and Centerville. This year's book is Tales of the Road: Highway 61 by Cathy Wurzer. Wurzer is currently the host of Morning Edition on Minnesota Public Radio. She is also the co-host of Almanac, a weekly public affairs program produced by Twin Cities Public Television.

Tales of the Road: Highway 61 tells stories of places along the highway that are well-known, little-known and, in some cases, all but forgotten. Included are stories that range from the Outlaw Bridge at the Canadian border to La Crescent, the Apple Capital of Minnesota, on the southern Minnesota border.

Meet Cathy Wurzer and kickoff the White Bear Reads program at the library in White Bear Lake on February 2 at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Cosponsored by Ramsey County Library, White Bear Lake Area Schools and Lake Country Booksellers.

This program is funded in part with money from the vote of Minnesota residents on November 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve our state's arts and cultural heritage.

Minnesota History Center"s History Players presents "Thomas Lyles." Lyles came to St. Paul in 1874 and was among that first generation of civic leaders who helped shape the city's African American community. Lyles was a barber, real estate agent, publisher of the Western Appeal newspaper and one of St Paul's first undertakers. Take a stand and watch this History Player perform as Thomas Lyles.

This program is sponsored by MELSA, highlighting the Museum Adventure Pass program.
